Geofencing attendance explained for field and site teams
Jeeva, Founder, EFIQ Solutions · 5 min read
If your people work on sites, in stores or on the road, a fixed punch machine does not fit. Geofencing attendance lets people check in from their phone, but only when they are where they should be.
What is geofencing?
A geofence is a virtual boundary drawn around a real place, like your factory, a store or a client site. The attendance app uses the phone's location to confirm the person is inside that boundary when they check in.
Why it beats the alternatives
- Paper registers are easy to fill in for someone else and slow to tally.
- Biometric machines need hardware at every location and do not travel with field teams.
- Plain phone check ins without location can be marked from anywhere.
Geofencing keeps the convenience of the phone and adds a fair, simple check.
How to roll it out fairly
- Explain why. Accurate records protect employees too, especially on overtime and disputes.
- Be clear about when location is checked. Only at check in and check out, unless you say otherwise.
- Set sensible boundaries. Too tight and people fail at the gate. Too wide and it means little.
- Have a fallback. Let managers approve a manual check in when phones or signals fail.
What managers get
A live view of who is in, who is late and who is on leave, plus clean records ready for payroll at the end of the month.
Where efiqone fits
efiqone Attendance runs on the same login as HR and every other efiqone app, so attendance, leave and holidays work together.
